Monroe-Woodbury High School’s FBLA chapter hosted their annual blood drive in the wrestling room on March 19. During the event, students donated their blood to people in need, assisting the community.
“I feel good because I saved three lives,” said Erin Cunningham, senior. “I was a little scared, but now that I’m done, I feel good about myself.”
This good feeling was common amongst donors.
“It makes me feel accomplished…it feels good to help out in the community,” said Shayla Hache-Rose, senior.
Swathi Sathiyamoorthy, president of Monroe-Woodbury FBLA, said that there was a lot that went into planning the event, such as getting enough outreach for people to donate and getting volunteers to help the event run smoothly.
Sathiyamoorthy also noted that this event was necessary due to the fact that New York is currently in a blood shortage.
“[The Blood Drive] is a great way for students to get involved in the community,” said Sathiyamoorthy.
New York State FBLA Reporter Siddharth Ranganathan and Monroe-Woodbury FBLA Reporter Abhilash Patel also expressed their pleasure with how the event ran.
“It feels good to have a lot of students here showing unity. They’re giving back to the community that has treated us well,” said Ranganathan.
“We’re extremely grateful to all the medical staff for providing the opportunity to potentially save the lives of others,” said Patel.
