For many students, music is more than just something they listen to for fun. It is a part of their daily lives that helps them focus, relax, and express themselves. From studying and cleaning to riding in the car, music has become an important part of the student experience.
Students at our school listen to a variety of genres and use music in different ways. Senior Gemly Jean Julien said music is a constant part of her routine.
“I listen to music a lot, while cleaning and when I’m in the car,” Julien said. “It makes me feel happy. Music is powerful.” She added that her favorite genres are hip hop and trap soul.
Many students also believe music can have a positive effect on their emotions. Freshman Jael Street explained how music can change her mood throughout the day.
“Music can make my mood go up and it can make me want to dance,” Street said. She also believes that music can help students manage stress, especially during school weeks.
For some students, music plays an important role in academics as well. Freshman Kela Burch said that listening to music helps her while studying.
“I like listening to music while studying,” Burch said. “Music plays a very important role in my life.”
Teachers also recognize the impact music can have on students. Mr. Hyman shared his thoughts on how music affects people both emotionally and creatively.
“I think music can stimulate creativity and emotions,” Mr. Hyman said. “ It’s a different experience.”
He explained that he often chooses music based on how he is feeling.
“When I’m happy, I’ll listen to rock,” he said.
Music continues to influence students and teachers in many ways. Whether it is helping students focus on homework, improving their mood, reducing stress, or encouraging creativity, music remains a powerful part of everyday life.
Although everyone has different tastes in music, one thing is clear: music serves as a soundtrack to student life. It helps people connect with their emotions, express themselves, and navigate the challenges of each day. As students continue to grow and learn, music will likely remain an important part of their lives both inside and outside of school.
As technology continues to grow, students have easier access to music than ever before. Whether through their phones, computers, or streaming services, music remains a constant companion throughout the school day and beyond.
