The high school library hosted the annual Scholastic Book Fair the week of March 9. Throughout the week, students visited the book fair during their English classes.
The book fair includes a range of different genres covering fiction, science, history and more.
High school librarian Ms. Speer said the book fair “gets books into people’s hands” including her own. Ms. Speer bought the book “P.S. I Love You” by Cecelia Ahern.
English teacher Ms. Stack said, “I love the book fair, I think it’s a really fun way for teachers and students to explore new titles.”
Ms. Stack said she enjoys “seeing what cool things my students are interested in.”
“I think the book fair is really good,” said Camilla Grant. “I got a book from a series I didn’t have before.”
Students said they appreciate the book fair for a variety of reasons. Sophomore Evan Pampolina said he liked the reasonable prices, while another sophomore said he enjoys the atmosphere. Another sophomore Kristen B. said “there a lot of cool things to buy.” Junior Skyleigh Cardona said “There’s a lot of books and they have some good pens.”
In addition to books, the book fair also sells toys, trinkets, posters, notebooks and pens.
Despite the wide selection, some students wanted even more books.
“I would add more book selections to the book fair,” said sophomore Abby Alvarado.
Not everyone was complimentary of the book fair. Sophomore Jorge Veloz said that he wished the selection of books was bigger and hoped for “ less stereotypical romance books.”
Michael Mitts liked the selection, but was critical of the book fair’s organization.
“The books here are pretty good,” said Mitts, “but they should categorize the books for each reading level.”
Sophomore Julia Cwiekowska said “It could have been bigger; classes get crowded in here.”
Despite the criticisms, most students and staff seemed to enjoy their time in the library during the book fair, including librarian Ms. Sherman.
“I really enjoy it,” said Ms. Sherman of the book fair. “It brings back memories from elementary school.”
