Students and Staff Take Part in Annual Breast Cancer Walk

Monroe – Woodbury Varsity Cheerleaders entertain the crowd before the walk begins.

Monroe-Woodbury students and staff walked to support the Breast Cancer Awareness walk that was held at the Woodbury Common on Sunday, October 16. The walk was about two miles long and lasted from 9:00 to 11:00am. 

More than 6,000 walkers came together at Woodbury Common Premium Outlets for the Making Strides of Hudson Valley walk and we are blown away by this community,” stated The American Breast Cancer Society’s website. 

Junior Kayla Caruso, who participated in the walk, said there were physical education teachers who came to support the walkers. Ms. Alberti, a teacher from Monroe-Woodbury Middle School and Ms. Santoianni and Ms. Fugowski from the high school were some of the P.E. teachers that came to show their support. 

Kayla said the football team and cheerleading team attended. She stated, “It was great, so many people came together. It was a good cause.”

Junior Ashley Castillo, said that the Voice Ensemble also attended. Castillo, who is a part of the ensemble, said she and the rest of the group sang the National Anthem for the crowd of walkers and supporters.
