Aching heart, sweaty palms
The memory replays
Stood up, letting the wind take me
My eyes wander, my chest rising
They emerge from the lavender fields with red roses
My eyes deceive me
A lightning show, just me for me
They sing me a lullaby
The storm in me vanishes
I close my eyes and sit
It crawls on my palm
And kisses it
I smile softly
The soft rain joins me
I open my eyes
My heart leaps
I let out a soft repressed sigh
She’s here, staring with those brown eyes
I see her, but cannot reach her
She smiles
A bright light blinds me
She’s gone.
My heart sinks
“I miss her,” I choke out
“I know,” blinks the firefly
I sit there, accepting
The fireflies comfort me
She’s never coming back
