“Coco” is a Pixar film that expresses a diverse setting and the dreams of a kid who wants to become a musician. Miguel the boy expresses his emotions and hopes of becoming a musician in a family where music is banned. Trying to live up to his idol, Ernesto de la Cruz, he finds himself in the stunning and colorful Land of the Dead. After meeting a trickster named Hector, they find themselves in some trouble. The two friends embark on their journey of discovering the real history behind Miguel’s family.
In “Coco”, Miguel’s family has banned music, but Miguel’s passion is to be like Ernesto de la Cruz. De la Cruz is a famous musician that has many songs. Miguel follows his passion and finds himself in a colorful place known as the Land of the Dead, which is a city that represents a beautiful Mexican culture and shows all the marigold flowers and many vibrant colors. The Land of the Dead shows a place you would want to go rather than a place you may be scared of. He meets a phoney guy named Hector who helps Miguel get back to his family. After finding out the harsh truth Miguel follows what he’s meant to be and has a deep love for his family and music.
Coco explores a traditional conflict. The conflict is one of the traditional versus community. The independent self against the claims of family or culture. Miguel must balance determination and freedom in the world of our creation. By the existence of a living boy among the dead and spirits, the film explores the full depth of our conflicted human experience. This is hard for Miguel to try and live in the present with the past laying on his shoulders. His family has high expectations, but Miguel has to balance his family and the dreams he wants to follow.
I love “Coco” for its stunning animations, colors, scenes, and music. It is a heartwarming story, showing the importance of family and traditions. These features show the colorful and extravagant Mexican culture, particularly Dia de Muertos. This resonates with people in a cultural and personal way. It also shows the importance of following your dreams and inspires me to live the life I want to live but also remembering the importance of my family and support.
Nothing is more valuable than family. Take in the moment, and pursue your dreams. Never sacrifice your traditions, family, and culture for the sake of your dreams. Learn to balance both of them instead of fighting for just one. The deceased forever remain in memory of your family, and they will always be looking out for you.
