The Class of 2028 re-elected their class president Karlyn Fateman for her second term, along with new Vice President Meray Mekhail to represent the freshmen class in student council.
On Sept. 26, 2024, freshman students elected their president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, and two senators by filling out a Google Form during the school day, picking their favorite candidates to represent the class.
Apart from class government, electees will also join Student Council, which includes upperclassmen student governments, who contribute to events throughout the school year.
In an interview, student government advisors Mrs. Ahrens and Mrs. Zomback explained each of the positions and the responsibilities the candidates must uphold throughout the year:
- The president must attend Class of 2028 meetings, along with reporting to their class on student government activities.
- The vice president must be present at meetings if the president is absent, and report any freshmen activities to Student Council.
- The class secretary takes care of communication, record attendance and meetings, and document the agenda of the meeting.
- The treasurer is responsible for the money associated with the class, such as fundraising and spending of finances.
- The two senators represent the opinions and views of the freshmen class, and they will assist their fellow officers as needed.
While the results were read during the school announcements, classrooms became silent, waiting to hear their future student government officials.
With all of the newly elected officers, they shared a common goal for the freshman class—to make it the best year they have ever had.
“My goals for the freshman class are to make sure we become tighter in friendship and experience high school in a positive light,” said Vice President Meray Mekhail.
