This year, spirit week was the week from October 15 to October 19 and it finished with Pep Rally, an annual gathering of students to show pride in the school. Many students take part in the annual spirit week tradition and look forward to showing off their school spirit.
Freshman Alexi Johnmar said she dresses up for spirit week because it’s “important to represent the spirit of Crusaders.”
Ms. Epstein, earth science teacher, said that it was important for her to be a Crusader.
“I love this school,” said Ms. Epstein, who said she wears purple every Friday to show her pride.
Ms. Epstein said one way she promotes school spirit is to tell her students “how amazing they are.”
Library clerk Ms. Yurman said that school spirit is important because it helps support the students.
“I thought it was fun,” said Ms. Yurman, about spirit week, “because it helps all of the students come together.”
Sophomore Vienne Doscher also said she loves the school.
“I love to dress up for school events like homecoming week,” said Doscher.
Freshman Mia Kawada shows her school spirit by participating in school events, going to homecoming, and joining clubs.
School events and traditions that promote school spirit include spirit week, homecoming, sporting events, pep rally, graduation, and dances like homecoming and prom. One way that students can show school spirit is to volunteer in the community to positively represent their school. Some other ways are to attend school sporting events, join clubs that support the school, and represent the school positively by having good attendance, getting good grades, and engaging in good behavior.
Other ways that students can show pride are wearing school merchandise and taking part in days that recognize and support issues like childhood cancer awareness.
At pep rally, students show pride in the school, cheer for their sports teams, and are recognized by grade level.
One of the highlights of pep rally is the performance of the cheerleaders. Senior cheerleader Hailey Diaz said she was sad because it was her last pep rally, but she enjoyed performing.
“It was fun, but tiring,” said Diaz. “They were a good crowd; they were cheering.”
For freshman Hailey Colon, it was her first pep rally.
“It was alright,” said Colon, who was sitting with the freshman on the opposite side of the football field from the rest of the grades. “I like the music but you couldn’t see the cheerleaders.”
Colon participated in spirit week too and she dressed like a barbecue dad for Wednesday’s theme.
Student Katelyn Whitmore said she really liked the themes for spirit week.
“It was very fun and the themes were exciting to participate in,” said Whitmore. The only drawback for Whitmore was that because of the Monday holiday, the students only had four days for spirit week.
““I wish we had one more day of a better theme since we had Monday off,” said Whitmore.
Whitmore also enjoyed pep rally and said that it was “hyped up for a good reason.”
Junior Kailyn Simon agreed and said the pep rally was a “good vibe.”
“It had a lot of school pep,” said Simon.
