INK: Then I Remember

Ethan Robertson

Then I remember-
I’ve spent a whole afternoon looking at photographs.
I’ve accumulated so many in what has been my life, till now—
but there are two in particular that interest me.
One of myself at a young age,
The other is of my mother and her brothers.
I look at the picture of my younger self and wonder
Where did that hair go?
What was that smile for?
How long has it been since then?
That, I do not remember
Much like the rest of my past-
It is all a blur.
Then i look at my mothers picture
She looks so happy
Both my uncles do as well
She is maybe 22,
My youngest uncle is maybe 5
I wish I had a better memory to know-
What made them so mad at eachother?
Then I remember, I was only 2 (or was it 3).
