A-V club helps keep school events running smoothly

The A-V Club, or Audio-Visual Club, is a vital part in making sure school events, like the fall drama production, the spring musical, Rhythm and Rhyme, pep rally, and this year’s upcoming M-W CARES day, run smoothly from start to finish.

“The A-V Club is different than most other clubs. Our work is based on live productions and requires quite a bit of set up beforehand. Dedication during the actual event, during setup, and during cleanup is vital to everything running smoothly,” said Mr. Kerstanski, the A-V club adviser.

The A-V Club has trained many of their members to work with all of the equipment necessary for events. Some of this equipment includes a soundboard for controlling the volume of a speaker or an actor’s microphone and a lighting board that controls the lights onstage as well as in the audience.

“Even though I mostly deal with the lighting aspect of things, I also know the basics of working with sound equipment, just in case I need to run a microphone on stage or control a music level,” said Bryan Reid, the club’s vice president.

Throughout the normal school day, the A-V Club helps to host guest speakers or events like assemblies. The A-V club is also responsible for sound at the annual pep rally.

“We try to get the music for pep rally ahead of time so we can download all the songs before the actual event. This way, the members of the A-V Club can organize the music and run the sound system and music during pep rally successfully. The members are responsible for making sure the music isn’t too loud during the skits and making sure the audience can hear those speaking on the field,” said Mr. Kerstanski.

Membership in A-V Club requires dedication and hard work. Members must be available during the school day as well as after school for rehearsals or setup. Members must also be able to pay constant attention to whatever job they are performing.

“The A-V Club is not one of those clubs where you can expect to join and just not do anything. This club requires hard work and dedication to the job you are doing. Members must be available at a moment’s notice for rehearsals or performances,” said Reid.

If anyone is interested in joining the A-V club, please see Mr. Kerstanski in the music wing for details and meeting times.
